Thanimalayalam is a club established under the leadership of the Department of Malayalam to nurture the creative talents of the students. The department monthly organizes ‘Ente vayana-Vidhyarthikal nadathunna pusthakavalokanam’ and ‘Ente vayana’ -Adhyapakarude vayananubhavangaliloode’ specially meant to enhance the reading habit of students and teachers respectively. Various workshops and activities are conducted, like Kalamezhuthupaat Shilpashala and Magazine workshop.The club also produces manuscripts and publishes student creations. Events like Mother tongue Day, Basheer commemoration and Keralappiravi, Environement day, O N V Anusmaranam are celebrating appropriately. Under the leadership of Thanimalayalam club conducted field trips also. Thani Malayalam Club Organized magazine workshop in association with magazine committee.
To promote and preserve the rich cultural heritage of Malayalam language and literature among college students and to provide a platform for students to express themselves creatively through various forms of Malayalam art, including literature, poetry, drama, and music.
Objectives:
Organize regular Malayalam language workshops and classes to enhance students’ proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Malayalam.
Host literary events such as poetry readings Day observation ,Field trips,book clubs, and writing competitions to encourage creativity and appreciation for Malayalam literature.
Extension/ Outreach
On January 30, 2023, Al Shifa College of Arts and Science’s Publication Wing and Department of Malayalam jointly presented “Kadhalayam: An Anthology of Short Stories by Students.” is ISBN-bearing book show-cases short stories contributed by students across Kerala colleges. The Publication Wing and Thanimalayalam Club collaborated to publish a book titled ‘Adhyapanathinte Naalvazhikal’. This book comprises a collection of 19 anecdotes shared by 17 experienced teachers, both currently teaching and retired from the profession. These insightful experiences were skillfully penned by faculty members from various districts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The book was officially released by Mr. Mangottil Balakrishnan, a retired school teacher and Chairperson of the Poothanam Memorial Committee.
The book titled, ‘Sooktham’: an Anthology of Poems ‘ by the Students from various colleges in Kerala was formally released by Dr. V. Hikmathulla, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Malayalam, KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, on 11 January 2024 at the College Seminar Hall.Dr. Babu. PK, the Principal, presided over the programme and Ms.Febeena. K received the book from Dr. V. Hikmathulla in the presence of students and teachers. Dr. Hikmathulla engaged in a conversation with students during the event.
On August 29, 2022, under the leadership of the Thani Malayalam Club, Kerala Folklore and Temple Arts Academy Artist organized a cultural event where students were introduced to the art of Kalamezhuthupaat and traditional Kerala dance forms by renowned artists Shri Kadannamanna Srinivasan. The aim was to familiarize students with the art of Kalamezhuthupaat and traditional dance forms as part of their cultural education. Students, who were members of the Thani Malayalam Club, actively participated in the event. The event included performances such as Panchadooli (a traditional martial art form), Nanthuni (a traditional musical instrument), and praise songs, which mesmerized the students. After Shri Srinivasan’s performance, he provided a brief explanation about the art form, its tools, and the background, enlightening the students.
A Magazine Designing Workshop was organised jointly by the Thanimalayalam Club and Library Council at Al Shifa College of Arts and Science for college students of Kerala, on 11 August 2022. Workshop was organised in the categories of story writing and layout making. Along with this, an exhibition of award-winning magazines was also held on the same day. Workshop was inaugurated by the chief guest Dr. Rajesh Monji (Assistant Professor of the Department of Malayalam, MES Mampad College). Mr. Abdulla Kutti, writer, and Adv.
