About

The Entrepreneurship Development Club, Al Shifa College of Arts & Science started with the objective to develop entrepreneurial skills among the students. The club aims to create an environment that encourages and supports the development of entrepreneurial mindsets and attitudes among its members. The membership is open to all students of ACAS.

The ED club implemented various programs during the last academic year, which includes programmes for fostering the culture of entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial skill development, networking & collaboration among aspiring entrepreneurs, students, professionals, and industry experts, workshops and seminars, entrepreneurial competitions programmes etc.

Industry Visit

ED Club organised an Industry Visit to the Thai Group of Companies, Sulthan Bathery, Wayanad, on 16 Dec 2022. It was a great experience to learn the production process of cosmetic products especially soap and other related products. 49 students and 3 faculty members took part in the Industry Visit. This industrial visit was very helpful to us in refining some fundamental business concepts and understanding the application areas of those concepts.

The Entrepreneurship Development Club and Women Development Cell at Al Shifa College of Arts and Science organized an Industry Visit to Inkel City, Malappuram, on August 19, 2023. Covering a sprawling 183-acre area, Inkel City houses a range of business firms and educational institutions, standing as a collaboration between KSIDC and INKEL.

Industry cum Academic Visit to IIMK (Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode) on 23 January 2024. The visit let the students explore the museum, set in the Administrative block, in which separate pavilions were set for SBI, RBI, ISRO, etc.

The Entrepreneurship Development Club at Al Shifa College of Arts and Science organized a field visit to Manorama Quickerala Machinery & Trade Expo, Marine Drive Ernakulam, on August 18, 2023. Malayala Manorama Quickerala Machinery and Trade Expo features a wide array of small and large machinery and equipment by manufacturers from across the country.

It is an exclusive event where companies from across the Nation participate to showcase their machinery with the latest technological advancements. The event will include 200+ stalls by 110+ brands and 7+ categories from all prominent segments of businesses that could support improving production, service, quality, quantity, branding, marketing, and sales.

Food Fest

ED Club organized a Food Fest under the name ‘Ruchimelam Season 2’ on 31 Jan 2023. It is the second season of the food fest which was conducted similarly last year. ‘Ruchimelam season 2’ was inaugurated by the famous food vlogger & Food Enthusiast, Mr. Ummer Sabu (Food Hunter Sabu).

KIOSK – StuBiz: Students Sales Point

ED Club started a Students Sales Point named StuBiz on 11 October 2022. StuBiz is a student sales point run under ED Club to enhance the entrepreneurial skills of students. Mr. Anwar. K. V, M. D, Modern Distropolis Ltd. and the President of Malappuram Chambers of Commerce inaugurated StuBiz. Food items like juices and snacks were put for sales. Management representative Dr. Unneen. P, Managing Trustee, Shifa Medicare Trust and Mr. Hamsa. P, Chief Executive, Shifa Medicare Trust, Mr. Nisar. K, IQAC Member and Dr. Babu. P. K, Principal were present in the inaugural function.

StuBiz is a student sales point run under ED Club to enhance the entrepreneurial skills of students. The students involved got firsthand experience in entrepreneurial venture and sales. This is part of the year-long programme to run a students’ kiosk on the campus.

Art & Craft Exhibition

The Club organized Art & Craft Exhibition on 19 September 2022, @ ACAS College Campus. The event was a great success in terms of a wide variety of creative works of students in ACAS. ED Club organized a very good programme to improve the Art & Craft Skills of the students. Many students worked hard according to their abilities and displayed their work.

SEM ’24 – Student Entrepreneurs Meet at ACAS

SEM ’24 – Student Entrepreneurs Meet, hosted by the Entrepreneurship Development Club at Al Shifa College of Arts & Science in association with the Department of Commerce, IEDC, IIC and YIP was a remarkable event that aimed to cultivate entrepreneurial skills among students. Collaborating with the Malappuram Chamber of Commerce, Taluk Industries Centre, Govt. of Kerala and SAFA Group of Companies, the program featured distinguished speakers and industry experts who shared valuable insights.

The collaborative environment facilitated by this event allowed students to exchange innovative ideas, learn from industry experts, and ultimately foster a spirit of entrepreneurship.

The success of SEM ’24 was not only attributed to the insightful sessions but also to the collaborative efforts of the organizing team, faculty members, and volunteers. The student entrepreneurs from various colleges under Calicut University participated and presented their Startup stories, creating a vibrant atmosphere that encouraged learning and networking. SEM ’24 has undoubtedly left a lasting imprint, fostering an environment conducive to creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial thinking among the student community.

11 12-Dec-22 BYOB – Be Your Own Boss Session ‘Meet the Entrepreneur’ titled ‘BYOB – Be Your Own Boss’. Chief Guest was Mr. Nayeemmallik and Mr. Mehroof Ahmed, Directors of Justloaf Hospitality Global LLP
Mr. Nayeemmallik and Mr. Mehroof Ahmed interacted with the students and shared their experiences. Just Loaf now has 3 outlets in Kerala and is looking to expand in Kerala. Their mission in 2025 is to start 10 more outlets in India and they will expand outside the kingdom too, they already started their operation in Qatar.

14 22-Dec-22 Idea Pitching Idea Pitching Contest, at ACAS : The event was an excellent opportunity for students to gain experience in pitching their ideas and receiving valuable feedback from the judges. The event helped to promote the college’s entrepreneurship ecosystem and inspire future innovators. The selected students are requested to submit their proposal to DREAMVESTER programme. DREAMVESTER is an initiative by The Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Kerala to provide enormous opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs. Mr. Muhammed Lasin. T, Fourth Semester B. E, Assistant Professor, Department of Food Technology, MES Mampad College (Autonomous) led the workshop. The workshop focused on food start-ups; the recent ideas, trends, and opportunities in today’s world.
17 30-Jan-23 Robotics One Day Workshop on “Robotics”, at ACAS : Students were grouped for the practical session and each group assembled various parts and formed them into products. Sensors-activated robots are created in the workshop. Using Arduino, it can read signals from various sensors, flashlights, and start motors; In short, we can make any electronic application you can think of.

23 27-Jun-23 Social Spark – Ignite Your Idea with Social Media Content Creation Social Spark – Ignite Your Idea with Social Media Content Creation: Mr. Shad Muhammed. T is known for his role as a social media manager and content creator. He embarked on his journey as a social media content creator during his time in the twelfth grade. The primary objective of the workshop was to inspire and motivate the members of the ED Club towards entrepreneurship and provide them with valuable insights into the field. The session aimed to showcase Mr. Shad Muhammed. T’s experiences, challenges, and successes as a social media content creator, thereby encouraging the attendees to explore and pursue their own entrepreneurial ventures.
24 28-Jun-23 Book Time; Review of Entrepreneurial Books Book Time: Featuring reviews of entrepreneurship books. The reviewers for the session were Mr. Akshay Kumar. K, Student, Fifth Semester B. A. Economics, and Ms. Rameesa Jahan. V, Student, Fifth Semester of B. A. Functional English. Mr. Akshay Kumar. K. presented a review of the book ‘Think and Grow Rich: The Secret to Freedom and Success’ by Napoleon Hill. He provided insights and highlights from the book, discussing its relevance to entrepreneurship and the valuable lessons it offers. Following that, Ms. Rameesa Jahan. V shared her review of the book ‘Zero to One: Notes on Start-ups, or How to Build the Future’ by Peter Thiel. She discussed the key concepts and ideas presented in the book, emphasising their significance for aspiring entrepreneurs. The event provided a platform for students to gain knowledge about influential entrepreneurship books and understand their practical application in the business world.
25 19-Aug-23 Industry Visit to Inkel City, Malappuram The primary objective of this industry visit was to explore the Institute of Gems and Jewellery (IGJ), which provides comprehensive training in jewellery designing. During the visit, the IGJ staff and management team meticulously explained the intricate production processes involved in the transformation of raw gold into exquisite final pieces. This experience allowed students to gain profound insights into the various production and design aspects of the jewellery industry. Mr. Shahin, the Plant Executive, generously guided the students through the distinct stages of production, offering a firsthand look into the complexities of the process. The industry visit proved to be an invaluable opportunity for students to delve into the captivating realm of jewellery crafting. A total of 48 students participated in the visit.
26 22-Aug-23 Celebration of World Entrepreneurs Day Celebrated World Entrepreneurs Day on 22 August 2023 at 12.00 PM at College Seminar Hall, One team from each class consisting of three members participated in the programme. Mr. Shibin & team, Fifth Semester BA Economics, secured the first position in the competition. The quiz helped in raising awareness among the participants on current developments in entrepreneurship. And notably, this quiz contest served as an educational vehicle, heightening the awareness of all participants regarding the latest trends and developments in the dynamic realm of entrepreneurship.

28 12-Sep-23 MICROGREENS – Green to Profit, A Guide to Success Ms. Madhurima. M. K, and Adna Yahya. K. P, V Semester B. Com Finance led the session. They shared their insights and knowledge on microgreens, providing attendees with valuable information on how to succeed in this niche market. Topics covered included cultivation and care of microgreens, potential business opportunities, and the health benefits associated with consuming microgreens. There are more than 100 varieties available in this category. Students have started a microgreens project on campus as a pilot study and 5 varieties have been planted. It was an informative session and provided attendees with practical knowledge and inspiration to explore entrepreneurial ventures related to microgreens.

The members of the ED Club interacted with Dr. Saheer, founder of Zil Money Corporation. Zil Money is a fintech company with its headquarters located in the United States. It specializes in providing innovative financial technology solutions to individuals, businesses, and organizations. Zil Money’s primary focus is to simplify and streamline financial operations through its advanced online banking platform.
47 21 Feb 2024 Building a Business An Interaction with Mr. Anwar, former President, Chamber of Commerce, Malappuram conducted an interview session with Mr. Anwar, former president, Chamber of Commerce (CoC), Malappuram. The members of the ED Club interacted with Mr. Anvar, who is the Managing Director, Modern Distropolis Ltd. He has led the COC for three consecutive terms and has implemented various programmes during his tenure for uplifting the industrial sector in the Malabar region. The interaction went through various areas which include business portfolios, current business culture, role of COC in business industry, returning migrant labour, the current situation of the job market in the country, etc.
